When I recorded this final episode of Hash It Out With Jane,
I didn’t realize it would be my last episode because I didn’t foresee the
abundance of opportunities that were coming my way. However, Gaelynn is the
perfect co-host to hash it out with as I transition into other areas of
criptastic media making.
Unless you live in a cave with zero media access, you have
probably heard of the lovely and talented Gaelynn Lea. She is the 2016 winnerof NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest! Fortunately for us, she was gracious enough to make
the time to discuss with me, the realities of being a successful entertainer
with a physical disability.
You may have noticed that over the past year, new episodes
of this fun, naughty, and educational podcast have been few and far between.
Lack of edgy topics to discuss and groovy people to interview are not to blame.
I simply don’t have the time anymore.
Through this podcast I have joyfully been promoting and
supporting artists, educators, entrepreneurs, musicians, and other movers and
shakers out there with and without disabilities, for the past four years. It
has been a hugely rewarding labor of love.
Now, it’s time for me to move on. I am retiring from
podcasting. This is not something to be sad about. The reason I don’t have time
to podcast anymore is because of the abundance of exciting opportunities
becoming available to me!
One of the reasons I started Hash It Out With Jane is
because I believe people with disabilities need to create our own quality
media, in every form, because Hollywood just never seems to get it right…or get
‘us’ right, I should say. While I am not at liberty to spill the beans on all
my new undertakings at this time, my work will continue to support inclusive media
and challenge societal norms.
The final episode of Hash It Out With Jane will post on
Monday, June 9th. My beautiful and talented co-host is….Gaelynn Lea Tressler,
winner of NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest!
In closing, I want to give a big, wet, sloppy, heartfelt
thank you to everyone who helped make this podcast a huge success. Go download
all your favorite episodes now because I will not be renewing my Podomatic subscription,
where they are hosted.
Hey there folks! Your favorite podcast is back with a whole new look! Do not despair. This episode was my very first attempt at editing audio AND video by myself. Therefore, my skills can only improve. Right? Damn right! I almost didn't post this because I obviously didn't have the settings right on my recording software. However, it will be very fun to watch the progression of my mad podcasting skills! On this episode, Andrew and I hash it out about the Oscars, sex, and pop culture!

Nontraditional relationships that Hallmark never told you about is February's theme on Hash It Out With Jane. To get the conversation rolling in an educated direction, I invited Modern Lifestyles Coach, Maegdlyn Morris to be my guest. For further learning, check out the following resources.
Happy New Year and as always, thank you for being a fan of Hash It Out With Jane! This podcast often features interesting guests who are shaking up these silly perceived societal norms that we have sadly gotten a little too comfortable with. Somewhere, somehow, it became 'normal' to treat all people with any type of disability or impairment like a child. The Sisters of Invention, as well as the rest of the population of adults with disabilities, are tired of this ignorance. With the support of their Manager and Tutti Arts, these Australian ladies are changing perceptions with their original music that they write themselves. We hope that you enjoy listening to our interview as much as we enjoyed putting it together. This is indeed "as real as it gets!" Click here to listen or simply scroll up or down to player.
This episode is dedicated to the most memorable activist for the rights of people with disabilities...Stella Young.
On this most recent episode of Hash It Out With Jane, we get funky and folky with Elizabeth Pope! After you fall in love with her music and personality, make sure to follow her on social media.
Are Zombies protected under the Americans With Disabilities Act? This is just one of the profound and amusing topics discussed with Mat Fraser, on this exciting episode of Hash It Out With Jane. We also talk about his current role as Paul the Illustrated Seal on American Horror Story: Freak Show! To keep up with Fraser's work, go to his website, follow him on Twitter @mat_fraser, or 'like' him on Facebook.
Artistic Director, Heidi Latsky, talks about new projects on the horizon for Heidi Latsky Dance! We also gossip about our friends Jen Bricker, Lawrence Carter-Long, and our dearly departed Lisa Bufano. For more information on Heidi Latsky Dance, click here. Also, sorry for the brief interruption by my cat, Bob. Heidi was saying something important when he crashed our meeting so I couldn't really edit it out.
Buckle up folks because this episode with guest, Cheryl Green, will take listeners on a wild ride of emotions. Prepare to laugh until you pee and get so pissed off that you shout obscenities! Cheryl and I discuss film making, brain injuries, tits, Comedy Central, activism, and political correctness...and then back to tits. We also gossip about some of our friends. As a Podcaster, I've been known to divide episodes into two segments when the material is just too juicy to cut. For the first time ever in Hash It Out history though, this episode is divided into three segments! Yes folks, it's that awesome! The circumstances leading up to Cheryl's generous offer to Amy Schumer are revealed in the third segment.
People with disabilities are once again being put at risk for injury and abuse in Ohio. MyCare Ohio was supposed to make life easier for those who receive both Medicaid and Medicare services. However, life has become significantly more challenging and stressful instead. My guest, Dominick Evans, joins me to help illustrate the severity of the situation.
Today is the launch of my Caption This – O.I. Awareness Day contest. The one and only winner of this contest will receive a copy of Plain Jane The SHOCKUMENTARY, a canvas lunch bag sporting my Hash It Out With Jane logo, AND a print of the photo with the winning caption on it! “What photo?” you ask. Good question! We’ll get to that in just a moment.
First, let me tell you what O.I. Awareness Day is. Nearly every social cause or disability has its own Awareness Day. The disability I have is, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.) This day is also often referred to as “Wishbone Day.”
There are a variety of ways that people celebrate O.I. Awareness Day. To show solidarity, everyone wears a yellow t-shirt. Another thing that folks do is, decorate everything with snowflake shaped ornaments to symbolize that every child born with O.I. is different. Then, there is the “Wishbone Day” logo that is available on a yellow t-shirt as well.
I fully support people in doing whatever it is they need to do in order to positively express their identity, as long as it isn’t harming anyone. None of these established rituals for celebrating O.I. awareness really resonates with me though.
I am as cracker white as cracker white gets. If I wear a yellow shirt, I’m going to look ill instead of disabled (there is a difference). The snowflake thing is kind of cute but still not my style. Plus, I roll with way too many perverts to wear anything that reads “Wishbone.” So, how is this non-conformist going to express acceptance, solidarity, and support of my fellow O.I. people?
I’m going to sponsor the Caption This – O.I. Awareness Day Contest! The prizes given away in this contest are my way of expressing my identity and the role O.I. plays in my life experience. Scroll down for contest rules and the photo that needs a caption! Have fun!

Fredrick Brennan was recently featured in the New York Times after being the victim of a mugging in NYC. This certainly isn't a rare occasion in the big apple but Brennan's story is different from the norm. Aside of the fact that he is a small statured wheelchair user, his reason for traveling with a significant wad of cash will open your eyes to a shocking reality facing many people with disabilities. Check out Brennan's latest programming venture here.
On this episode of Hash It Out WithJane my special guest is comedic actress with a disability, Teal Sherer. We discuss the growing success of her web TV show, My Gimpy Life which, is available on YouTube. The show is loosely based on real life awkward moments in the life of a woman who uses a wheelchair! Teal is always a pleasure to interview because she turns daily frustrating experiences into hilarious educational experiences.
This special episode of Hash It Out With Jane is a recording of a speech I delivered, virtually, to a group of Cannabis knowledge seekers in Jackson, Ohio.
